1 person dead, 1 in custody after boating mishap in Laurel County
A recent boating accident near Marsh Branch Boat Ramp in Laurel County resulted in one fatality and the arrest of an individual, as reported in an arrest citation. Fish and Wildlife Resources were called to Laurel Lake following the incident, where a person sustained head injuries from the boat's propeller. Unfortunately, the individual was pronounced dead by the coroner. Don Peace was identified as the boat operator by several witnesses. Authorities detected the smell of alcohol on Peace and others involved, leading to a breath test and subsequent field sobriety test. Consequently, Peace is facing charges of operating a boat while intoxicated and vehicular homicide under the influence of alcohol. Peace is currently held at the Laurel County Correctional Center.
