1 pedestrian dead, 1 injured in SF Chinatown car crash into building

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- One pedestrian was killed and another seriously injured in San Francisco's Chinatown Friday morning after being struck by a car as it crashed into a building, according to authorities. The collision occurred around 7:44 a.m. in the 600 block of Jackson Street. Photos from the scene show the car resting against the exterior of New Lun Ting Café. One of the pedestrians succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the hospital. The other pedestrian, an adult, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the San Francisco Police Department said. Investigators believe that a 76-year-old man was attempting to park his car when the crash occurred. The driver stayed at the scene to cooperate with the police. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be factors in the incident, SFPD said. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie wrote in a message posted to X that he is "saddened to hear about the crash in Chinatown this morning and the life that was lost." Continuing, "Public safety includes being able to walk safely on our streets, and I urge everyone to look out for one another—especially while driving—to help keep our roads and sidewalks safe." Building inspectors are responding to the scene to determine the extent of damage to the structure.
