1 killed in fiery semi crash on I-65 in White County

WHITE COUNTY, Ind. — A person was killed in a fiery semi crash on Interstate 65 in White County Tuesday night. According to a notification from the Indiana Department of Transportation, the crash occurred on I-65 southbound at mile marker 193, which is located between Walcott and Round Grove. INDOT first reported that a semi fire had forced Indiana State Police to close the road sometime around 10:35 p.m. In an update sent at 11:56 p.m., ISP confirmed that a crash had caused the semi to catch fire. Troopers also reported that the crash resulted in one fatality. Officials opened one lane of I-65 southbound just before midnight. All lanes of the roadway had reopened by 12:48 a.m. Wednesday. Troopers diverted traffic off of the interstate and onto U.S. Highway 231 while I-65 was closed. The cause of the crash and the number of vehicles involved in it are currently unknown. It is also unclear if anybody other than the decedent was harmed during the crash. State police have not yet provided the victim's identifying information like name and age.
