1 killed, 2 hospitalized in suspected DUI crash in San Bernardino County
One person was killed and two others were hospitalized after a suspected DUI crash in San Bernardino County Friday night. Rialto police responded to a single-vehicle crash on the 800 block of West San Bernardino Avenue in Rialto around 10:30 p.m. Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was traveling at an excessive speed just west of San Bernardino Avenue when they lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. The high-speed impact left all three occupants in serious to critical condition. A passenger, identified as John Vielle, 35, of San Bernardino, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local trauma center in serious condition. A third passenger was also taken to a local trauma center in serious condition. Although the investigation remains ongoing, police believe the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash. “No arrest has been made pending further investigative efforts,” Rialto police said.
