1 killed, 1 wounded in Sunday morning accident in Liberty County

A fatal accident occurred in Liberty County early Sunday morning, resulting in one person's death and another individual being injured. The Georgia State Patrol reported that the crash happened at 6:24 a.m. near the intersection of US-84 and SR-38 close to John Martin Road and Liberty County High School. Prior to the collision, authorities had issued a warning to law enforcement about a 2016 Honda Civic driving in the wrong direction. The Honda Civic, operated by 20-year-old Kortney Jackson from Allenhurst, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane and collided with a 2025 Genesis GV70. Jackson later passed away at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville, while the other driver was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where he is conscious and responsive. The investigation led to the closure of US-84 and SR-38 for several hours.
