A fatal traffic incident in Placer County has resulted in delays on Interstate 80, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred on the westbound side of I-80, east of Penryn Road, just after 7:30 p.m. According to CHP, the accident involved a single vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner, which swerved off the road and struck a tree on the right shoulder. Tragically, a woman in her twenties, who was the front seat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. CHP suspects a possible mechanical issue with the vehicle, though investigations are ongoing. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. With two lanes on westbound I-80 closed due to the incident, traffic flow is impacted. The dogs that were in the vehicle have been entrusted to Placer County Animal Control.
