1 ejected from vehicle, killed in Salt Lake City rollover crash

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- The victim in Sunday morning's fatal rollover crash in Salt Lake City has been identified as Robert L. Hill, 62. Hill was reportedly a sergeant with the Utah Dept. of Corrections (UDC). Police received a call just after 7:20 a.m. Sunday morning from a bystander who stated that a man had been thrown from his vehicle that had rolled into a field. Salt Lake City Police officers responded and found the man, identified as Hill, near the wrecked car. Detectives believe he lost control of the vehicle, was ejected, and died before first responders arrived. No other vehicles were involved. Hill worked with the UDC starting in 1996, serving in various roles, including themaximum security unit at the Draper facility. He most recently served in enforcement at the Utah State Correctional Facility. "The passing of Sgt. Hill is a profound loss for our department and for our entire law enforcement community," said Jared Garcia, Executive Director of the Utah Department ofCorrections. "We extend our deepest sympathies to Robert’s loved ones and colleagues duringthis incredibly difficult time." Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash. No further information is available at this time. SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) -- A driver is dead after being ejected from their vehicle in a rollover crash in Salt Lake City Sunday morning, according to Salt Lake City Police. Shortly after 7:20 a.m. on Feb. 15, officers responded to a crash near 700 N 8000 W. The driver was reportedly heading southbound on 8000 W when they veered off the road for an unknown reason, causing the car to roll multiple times, police said. The driver was ejected during the crash and declared deceased on scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released at this time. The crash is currently under investigation.
