1 dead following 5-car crash on I-93 north, major traffic delays

One person died following a five-car crash on Interstate 93 north in Medford on Thursday, which closed the northbound lane of the highway and caused major traffic delays.The Massachusetts State Police, Medford Police Department and Medford Fire Department and EMS said they responded to the scene of the crash on I-93 north just before Exit 25 around 6:20 p.m. Thursday.Police arriving at the scene said there was a "major collision involving numerous vehicles" and that one person was seriously injured. Around 7:12 p.m., police said the person had died as a result of their injuries.The northbound lane of I-93 near Roosevelt Circle was closed, as well as both Exits 23 and 24 northbound, as a result of the crash.Police said there was heavy traffic in the area of Roosevelt Circle and advised drivers in the area to seek alternate routes.It is not yet clear what caused the crash.
