1 adult, 3 juveniles injured in Boone County crash

THORNTOWN, Ind. — One adult and three children were seriously injured Monday in a crash near Thorntown. According to a press release, Boone County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 6500 block of U.S. Highway 52 around 3:11 p.m. to investigate a crash. When police arrived at the scene, they located two vehicles that had been involved in a crash — a trash truck and a blue Subaru Legacy. Bystanders helped the three juveniles exit the Subaru before police arrived at the scene. An adult female driver, however, was still unconscious in the Subaru when police made it to the area. First responders ultimately helped the woman out of the Subaru. She and the three juveniles were all transported to local hospitals with serious injuries after the crash. After completing a preliminary investigation, Boone County Sheriff's deputies determined the driver of the trash truck was stopped on U.S. Highway 52 to provide services to a nearby residence before the crash. While the truck was stopped, the Subaru's driver rear-ended it. The Boone County Sheriff's Office indicated that its deputies have not yet determined exactly why the Subaru's driver struck the trash truck. Deputies also confirmed that the trash truck's driver sustained minor injuries during the crash. A Boone County crash team is still examining the circumstances that led to the crash. As of 6:20 p.m., all lanes of U.S. Highway 52 in Boone County had reopened.
