Woman from Delaware faces murder and DUI charges following crash that resulted in passenger's death

Delaware State Police officers arrested and charged a woman in connection with a fatal crash that occurred early Saturday morning in New Castle. The incident, which occurred around 1 a.m. on Southbound North DuPont Highway near Christiana Road, involved the 36-year-old driver, Ashley Wright, crashing her Lexus into the back of a tractor-trailer. This collision caused the vehicle to spin out of control, cross the median, and strike a traffic sign. Tragically, her passenger, a 36-year-old woman also from New Castle, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Wright, who did not slow down prior to the collision and displayed signs of impairment, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was subsequently charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, and other traffic offenses. After being released from the hospital, Wright was taken into police custody and later released on bail. The investigation led to the closure of the southbound lanes of North DuPont Highway for six hours.
