Woman from Chicago Ridge sentenced to 21 years for DUI accident that resulted in siblings' deaths: prosecutors

A former resident of Chicago Ridge has been given a 21-year prison sentence for a fatal drunk driving accident that resulted in the deaths of two siblings in 2023, as per prosecutors. 39-year-old Christine Brocious admitted guilt on September 10 to the charge of aggravated driving under the influence causing death, a Class 2 felony, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. The sentencing occurred on Monday after the prosecution pushed for the maximum term of 28 years. Brocious was granted a bond of $1.5 million with 10% applicable at a court appearance on July 6, 2023. Since then, she has been in detention, officials stated. The incident took place at the intersection of Mack Road and Winfield Road in unincorporated Winfield on June 29, 2023, leading to severe injuries to 25-year-old Jorgo Cukali and 30-year-old Nastika Cukali, as well as Brocious. The siblings succumbed to their injuries, with Jorgo passing away the following day and Nastika several days later. Brocious was found to have been driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of 0.206, more than double the legal limit. DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin stated that her decision to drive that night was extremely reckless and resulted in the tragic loss of the two innocent lives. Brocious must fulfill 85% of her sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
