Vehicle collides with duplex, alarming residents

A collision occurred at the junction of Elliott Road and Church Street in Lockeford, California, on Monday morning around 8 a.m. when a car crashed into a duplex, causing alarm for two families residing there. Ashley Cervantes, one of the residents, described the event as a loud impact that shook their home. "It was almost 8 o'clock when we heard that loud crash," Cervantes recalled. The sudden noise startled her young sons, who started screaming. "I woke up to see what was happening outside and noticed the car that had hit our house," she shared. The crash also roused Misty Hipsher, another resident, who recounted her initial reaction upon being awakened by the noise. "I leaped out of bed, thinking 'What's happening?' and then she jumped out asking 'Mom, what's going on? What's happening?'" Hipsher mentioned that she and her daughter Jade were enjoying a leisurely morning due to a fall break when the crash disrupted their rest. She added that the driver, a young man, seemed confused after exiting the vehicle following the collision. Allegedly traveling southbound on Elliot Road, he ended up hitting the house. The road is known to be heavily trafficked, and residents strategically position their cars to mitigate potential accidents. "I always make sure my car is parked in front of my bedroom. That way, if anyone hits, they won't crash into the bedroom where my daughter and I sleep," Hipsher shared. Cervantes pointed out that a sizable cactus situated in front of the property may have prevented the car from crashing further into the building. "We are all just grateful that we are unharmed," she expressed. The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the accident and the driver's actions. Whether the driver will receive a citation is still unknown. Fortunately, there were no injuries resulting from the collision.
