Utah Residents Share Their Stories on World Day for Road Traffic Victim Remembrance

Despite the rain on Sunday, individuals came together at Washington Square Park in downtown Salt Lake City to pay tribute to those impacted by traffic incidents. Organizations like Sweet Streets, SLC Transportation, Save Not Pave, and Vision Zero, Utah were part of the event. President Micki Harris of Save Not Pave, who has spoken at the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims event before, emphasized the importance of showing up despite the weather. She has witnessed the tragic consequences of traffic incidents, including the loss of her own family members. Harris aims to advocate for change within local communities by highlighting the toll these incidents take on families and communities. Sweet Streets reported over 20 serious injuries and more than 10 fatalities due to traffic incidents in Salt Lake City this year. Advocates are pushing for reduced speed limits, enhanced infrastructure, and improved road design and policies to address the underlying issues leading to these incidents.
