Undocumented truck driver with CDL in Turnpike accident

WPTV is investigating a tragic incident that occurred on the Florida Turnpike last week, resulting in a devastating triple fatal crash. The accident involved a semi-truck and a minivan near mile marker 170 in St. Lucie County, which claimed the lives of three individuals. It was determined that the undocumented truck driver attempted to make an illegal U-turn, causing the minivan to collide with the trailer. The driver of the semi-truck, Harjinder Singh, was arrested after it was revealed that he had illegally crossed the Mexican border into the United States in 2018. Transportation safety expert James Lewis emphasized the extreme danger of making illegal U-turns, especially on freeways. Singh had obtained a commercial driver's license (CDL) in California, where the requirements are less stringent than in other states. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy highlighted the importance of reviewing non-domestic CDLs in response to the crash. Singh faces three counts of vehicular homicide and is expected to be deported after his criminal proceedings. WPTV continues to investigate whether Singh's CDL was valid at the time of the tragic incident.
