Two-time Olympic gold medalist Laura Dahlmeier dies in mountain climbing incident
Olympic gold medalist Laura Dahlmeier sadly passed away in a mountaineering accident on Laila Peak in northern Pakistan. Dahlmeier, a 31-year-old German and prominent biathlete, had been stuck on the mountain since Monday, with rescue efforts hampered by poor weather conditions. Despite sustaining injuries, she was tragically struck by falling rocks on Wednesday. Although rescue efforts were underway, it was confirmed by a Pakistani minister that Dahlmeier had succumbed to her injuries. The Alpine Club of Pakistan had initially reported the incident, and rescue operations were carried out, including support from fellow climbers. Dahlmeier, who had retired from professional biathlon at the age of 25, had pursued her passion for mountaineering and had set ambitious climbing goals, such as scaling the Great Trango Tower and attempting the summit of Laila Peak. Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.
