Two teenagers tragically killed in weekend crash in Groveland.
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently looking into a collision that resulted in the tragic deaths of two teenagers on State Road 33, located to the west of Groveland. The incident occurred late Saturday afternoon near Groveland Farms Road, when a 16-year-old girl was driving a Toyota Scion with a 17-year-old male passenger. The driver attempted to overtake another vehicle in a no-passing zone. Upon realizing an oncoming SUV, she veered back into the southbound lane but lost control of her vehicle. This caused the Toyota to enter the northbound lane directly into the path of the SUV, resulting in a collision which then caused the Toyota to overturn. Both the driver and her passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The 75-year-old SUV driver and his three passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital. The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.
