Two killed in Novi freeway crash with multiple vehicles ablaze
Two individuals have tragically lost their lives in a collision on I-96 that resulted in both vehicles catching fire, according to the Novi Police Department. Footage of the aftermath was featured on our 6 a.m. newscast, along with information on an alternative route for commuters. The incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of I-96 near Beck Road. Reports indicate that one vehicle had stopped due to mechanical issues when another driver collided with it. Both drivers involved in the accident perished, with their vehicles subsequently igniting. The affected section of the highway remains closed as of 8:30 a.m., with authorities aiming to reopen it soon. As a detour to avoid delays from the crash, traffic expert Ali Hoxie recommends exiting at Milford and taking eastbound Grand River Avenue, which runs parallel to northbound Novi Road, to access the freeway.
