Two individuals face charges following shooting incident involving 1-year-old and woman in September.

Two individuals have been accused in relation to a shooting incident in September that harmed a 1-year-old child and a woman in her 30s on Westmoreland Street in Rochester, N.Y. Rochester Police went to Strong Memorial Hospital on Sept. 3, 2025, as the two victims were brought there with significant gunshot injuries to their lower bodies. It was determined by investigators that the shooting took place inside a residence on Westmoreland Street, with evidence indicating that a shotgun had been discharged from under a bed. Furthermore, an unregistered Smith & Wesson handgun was found in the house. Detectives suspect that the shooting occurred when one of two young children in the bedroom accidentally fired the shotgun, hitting the victims. After the inquiry, 36-year-old Temu Medford was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, while Heru Medford, also 36, voluntarily surrendered at the Public Safety Building. They were both detained at the Monroe County Jail. Heru Medford is facing charges of criminal weapon possession in the third degree, firearm possession, and endangering a child's welfare for possessing the unsecured, loaded shotgun and unregistered handgun. Meanwhile, Temu Medford is charged with criminal weapon possession in the third degree, firearm possession, and tampering with physical evidence for having the unregistered handgun and attempting to hide evidence during the investigation. The investigations for both cases are ongoing.
