Two adolescents detained after pursuit and collision in NW Wichita
Wichita police responded to a reported kidnapping which resulted in a pursuit and collision in northwest Wichita. The incident led to a school-threat investigation. Police were informed about a possible abduction of a 16-year-old girl allegedly taken by two men in a stolen vehicle in downtown Wichita. Through the Flock camera system, authorities were able to track the vehicle to northwest Wichita and discovered that the girl had actually been dropped off at her house and was considered a runaway, not a victim of kidnapping. Following a conversation with the girl, it was revealed that the two 17-year-old boys she had been with might have been planning to harm someone at another local school. The Flock system traced the vehicle to the 29th and Tyler area. The suspects were pursued by law enforcement, leading to a crash involving at least three vehicles. Authorities captured the armed teens after a brief chase, with one located by a police K9 and another found hiding in a bush with the help of a drone. The culprits were taken into custody, and three firearms were confiscated. Due to the incident, an alert was issued to residents and businesses in the vicinity of 21st Street and Tyler Road, instructing them to remain indoors and secure their properties. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
