Truck driver had minimal notice prior to fatal train crash in Elgin, Illinois - NTSB report

A landscaping worker tragically lost their life in a recent accident when a freight train collided with their pickup truck in Elgin, as detailed in a preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board. The incident occurred early in the morning on Oct. 23 at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing in Elgin. One passenger in the truck was fatally injured, while the driver and another passenger sustained injuries. The landscaping company, Cornerstone Partners, has confirmed that the workers involved were their employees. The NTSB report revealed that the train's warning signals activated only as the train was already approaching the crossing, leaving the truck occupants with minimal time to react. The train, running below the speed limit, came to a stop after the collision. Investigations are underway to examine Union Pacific's operations, training, and the technology at the crossing to get a comprehensive understanding of the incident. CBS News Chicago is seeking responses from involved parties in light of the NTSB findings.
