Train service back on track in Lake Forest post collision with construction equipment

Train service in Lake Forest has resumed following a collision between a southbound Amtrak train and construction equipment on Sunday. The incident occurred near Everett and Waukegan Roads when the train struck an Amtrak front-end loader while crews were replacing tiles in the area. The Milwaukee District North Line was closed in both directions for over three hours as the scene was cleared. The Amtrak employee operating the equipment sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The cause of the collision is being investigated by officials from Lake Forest, Amtrak, Metra, and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Southern Railroad. Amtrak has not provided a statement regarding the incident.
