Tragic crash on Colorado's Eastern Plains leaves 17-year-old dead and 2 other teens injured

A tragic accident took the life of a 17-year-old boy in Kit Carson County, Colorado, when the vehicle he was in was rear-ended on Highway 385 last Thursday. The crash, which occurred close to Burlington, involved a Ford Focus with five teenage occupants waiting to turn left onto Kit Carson County Road. A 21-year-old woman driving a Jeep collided with the Ford, leading both vehicles to veer off the road. The young boy passed away at the accident site, while two other passengers were airlifted to Denver hospitals for critical and serious injuries. The rest of the occupants sustained minor injuries. The Jeep driver sustained minor to moderate injuries and was also hospitalized. The Colorado State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident. Although the highway was closed for hours, it reopened by late afternoon. Details about potential charges in connection with the crash were not available at the time of the press release issued by CSP in the evening. An update from CSP clarified that the victim was a 17-year-old, not 14 as initially reported, and confirmed there were five teenagers in the car impacted, not four as previously mentioned.
