Tragic accident claims life of 16-year-old Wilcox High School student
An unfortunate accident occurred on Lawrence Expressway in Santa Clara involving two young drivers, which led to the tragic loss of a well-liked high school student. The 16-year-old driver of a Honda Accord, identified as Isaiah Mendoza, was involved in a collision with a Toyota Camry, resulting in his passing at the scene of the crash. As reported by the Santa Clara Police Department, the fatal incident took place at 9:36 p.m. on September 20 near Benton Street. Mendoza, a talented student-athlete at Wilcox High School, played on the soccer and baseball teams. Two minor passengers in the Honda survived the crash, while the driver of the Toyota Camry stayed at the scene to assist with the investigation. Authorities mentioned that the Honda seemed to be traveling above the speed limit, though the exact speed is still under investigation. Following the tragedy, friends and family of Mendoza paid tribute by setting up a memorial of candles and flowers at the accident site.
