Traffic halted on 5 Freeway due to motorcycle accident and car fire in the early morning

A motorcycle accident and a separate car fire led to a significant traffic delay on the 5 Freeway in Arleta this Tuesday morning. Initial details regarding the crash were scarce, but CHP officials issued an alert reporting that it took place around 5:45 a.m. on the southbound lanes of the 5 at Osborne Street. Specifics on the cause of the crash, potential involvement of other vehicles, or injuries sustained were not provided. Consequently, authorities had to close the No. 3 and No. 4 lanes on the southbound side of the freeway. Additionally, the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes on the southbound 5 transition ramp to the 170 Freeway were shut down for investigation, and a SigAlert was issued. Sky5’s coverage revealed many drivers stranded on the road around 6:20 a.m. “Traveling south on the 5 from the Newhall Pass will be challenging,” Sky5 reporter Rich Prickett stated. “This situation will persist for an unknown period.” While officers were dealing with the motorcycle crash, a car caught fire in the stagnant traffic in the far right lane near the off-ramp before Osborne Street, Terra Bella Street. Footage captured from Sky5 showed the vehicle fully ablaze as other drivers cautiously maneuvered around it. The driver of the car appeared unharmed on the side of the freeway, and fire crews worked swiftly to extinguish the flames. “This ordeal is making things even worse on the southbound 5,” Rich observed from above the traffic gridlock. Commuters needing to traverse the Arleta vicinity are advised to explore alternative routes. Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding event.
