Traffic disruption caused by collision between cattle truck and emergency vehicles on I-26.

A section of Interstate 26 eastbound in North Carolina is currently closed due to a multi-vehicle accident involving two passenger cars, two semi trucks (one carrying cattle), and two Polk County EMS vehicles. The incident occurred at mile marker 66 and is affecting traffic from mile marker 66 to mile marker 54. Polk County officials reported that two passenger vehicles were initially involved in a collision, prompting the EMS vehicles to stop and assist. Unfortunately, while providing aid, two tractor-trailers collided with one of the EMS vehicles. One of the tractor-trailers is empty, while the other is transporting cattle. Fortunately, only minor injuries have been reported. Animal control from the Polk County Sheriff's Office is on-site to ensure the well-being of the cattle and oversee their safe transfer to a new vehicle. The closure of this section of the interstate is expected to last for several hours. Motorists are advised to use Exit 54 onto US 25 South and then onto SC-11 before rejoining I-26.
