Traffic delays on I-70, US 6, and C-470 due to crash near Golden on Thursday

There was an accident on Thursday in Golden that caused delays on several major roads in the area. The eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 6 were closed, but have since reopened along with the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70. Cleanup operations are still ongoing at Exit 216 off eastbound I-70, and the left lane of westbound U.S. 6 is also closed. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes such as Colfax Avenue or Highway 50. A semitrailer carrying gravel went over the rail on I-70 and ended up on U.S. 6 below, causing a significant fuel and gravel spill. The semitrailer driver was injured and taken to the hospital. Traffic in the area was backed up on multiple major roads, with diversions in place on U.S. 6 between Johnson Road and Indiana Street. FOX31 reporter Carly Moore noted that traffic was backing up on C-470 as well. With I-70 fully open, traffic is gradually returning to normal as cleanup crews work on the hazardous materials spill.
