Teenage driver dies in Santa Clara collision

A tragic collision in Santa Clara over the weekend resulted in the loss of a 16-year-old driver, identified as Isaiah Mendoza, a student at Wilcox High School. The incident occurred on Sept. 20 at the intersection of Lawrence Expressway and Benton Street. Upon responding to the scene, authorities found the driver inside a Honda Accord that had collided with a traffic signal pole, while two passengers were outside the vehicle, sustaining minor injuries. It was reported that the Honda had been traveling north on Lawrence Expressway when it made an unsafe turn, leading to the collision with a Toyota Camry. The speed of the Honda was believed to be a factor in the crash, although the exact speed is yet to be determined. The driver of the Toyota, who was also a minor, cooperated with investigators. The Santa Clara Unified School District is offering support services through wellness and counseling teams to assist students, expressing their deepest sympathies for the loss.
