Teen driver charged in fatal 12-vehicle crash in Las Vegas

Police in Las Vegas provided more information on Wednesday morning about a 12-car collision that tragically resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to others on Tuesday afternoon. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez, sustained serious injuries and is being treated at University Medical Center. He is currently facing charges related to reckless driving that led to fatalities or significant bodily harm. The crash, which occurred at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard at approximately 3:30 p.m., involved multiple vehicles and individuals aged between 5 and 75. In total, there were 18 individuals and 12 cars affected by the incident. The driver's passenger, a 20-year-old woman, lost her life in the collision, while another person, a 38-year-old man, was also tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. Additionally, six individuals sustained injuries, with a 24-year-old woman suffering life-threatening injuries and a 27-year-old man in serious condition. Investigations indicated that Gutierrez was speeding in an Infiniti vehicle on W. Cheyenne and collided with stationary vehicles waiting at the intersection due to a red light. The intersection remained closed for an extensive period, reopening to traffic at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday.
