Teen charged in stolen car accident that resulted in death of DC mother

A teenager has been formally charged in connection with a tragic accident involving a stolen car which resulted in the death of a mother in Washington D.C. Michael Collins is facing multiple charges related to the incident that occurred in Landover last August, where 35-year-old Shaunte Denise Canty lost her life. It is believed that Collins, along with three other teens, were driving a stolen vehicle when they disregarded a red light and collided with Canty’s car at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway and Sheriff Road in Prince George's County. This collision resulted in the death of Canty, who was traveling eastbound, while a child passenger in her vehicle was hospitalized with severe but non-life-threatening injuries. The three other teenagers involved in the stolen car were also hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. Collins has been taken into custody. Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Tara Jackson has stated her commitment to seeking justice for Shaunte and her family, emphasizing the accountability of individuals, including juveniles, for their actions.
