Teen arrested after car crash kills girl in Oakland

An adolescent girl tragically passed away and a teenage boy was taken into custody after a car accident happened near Interstate Highway 580 in East Oakland on Friday morning, as per police reports shared on Monday. The boy, who was driving, was supposedly trying to escape from the scene of a previous collision near Highland Hospital. He merged onto the freeway and then exited at the 35th Avenue off-ramp when another vehicle struck his car while he was allegedly speeding, causing him to crash into a concrete barrier. Police mentioned that they didn't specify the number of occupants in the first vehicle, but disclosed that a male teenager sustained injuries and the girl in the back seat was transported to a hospital, where she later passed away. The boy remains in critical but stable condition. Although the driver was apprehended, authorities indicated that drugs and alcohol were likely not contributing factors to the incident. Individuals with any relevant information are urged to reach out to the Oakland Police Department's Traffic Investigation Unit at (510) 777-8570.
