Suspected DUI causes rollover crash leading to death of 1-year-old in Maplewood.
Officials suspect that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in a tragic rollover crash in Maplewood, Minnesota, that claimed the life of a 1-year-old boy. The incident occurred on the eastbound Highway 36 ramp to southbound Highway 61 around 6:25 p.m. The driver, a 28-year-old woman from St. Paul, was reportedly speeding in a 2002 Chevy Tahoe when she lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road, flipped into the right ditch, and ended up upside down in water, as detailed in the accident report. Despite efforts to extricate the 1-year-old from beneath the vehicle, the child sadly did not survive. The driver and three other passengers were taken to Regions Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Following medical clearance, the driver was arrested and held in Ramsey County Jail on charges of criminal vehicular homicide. Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash further.
