Stolen car driver killed in Illinois crash had whiskey bottle on lap: sheriff
Tragically, a deadly collision occurred early on a Wednesday in Ingleside, resulting in one driver's fatality, the hospitalization of another, and a delayed start to the school day at South Middle School. Lake County Sheriff's deputies were alerted to the incident around 5 a.m. near Route 134 east of North Catherine Street. According to officials, a Honda sedan heading westward drifted into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an eastbound GMC work truck. The driver of the Honda, whose identity hasn't been disclosed yet, perished at the scene. Authorities discovered an open bottle of whiskey in his possession and determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen from a gym in Fox Lake the day before. Fortunately, the truck driver, a 44-year-old man from Johnsburg, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is cooperating with the investigation. Due to the crash blocking the school's entrances, South Middle School postponed classes for three hours, adjusting transportation schedules accordingly. While the Lake County Coroner's Office is conducting an autopsy, the sheriff's Technical Crash Investigations Team continues to probe the incident.
