Softball team injured in school bus rollover accident

A school bus carrying a Minco softball team was involved in a rollover accident on Monday night in Grady County outside Minco. The crash occurred around 8 p.m. near State Highway 152 and County Street 2760, resulting in injuries to several individuals among the 18 passengers on board. According to an update from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol on Tuesday, at least seven people were injured, with one adult remaining in critical condition. The bus driver, also the coach of the team, was identified as 38-year-old Cody Schmidt and was among those injured. The bus was the only vehicle involved in the accident, which happened when the driver attempted to avoid hitting a deer, causing the bus to roll once. All lanes of the highway and street were closed for hours following the incident. Minco Public Schools announced closure on Tuesday due to the crash, with classes set to resume on Wednesday, and the softball season not continuing this fall.
