Single gunshot fired in vehicle that crashed on I-64 in Norfolk

A teenager was left with critical injuries after being shot while inside a vehicle that crashed on Interstate 64 in Norfolk on Thursday night. The incident occurred at around 7:41 pm, when a silver SUV veered off the road and crashed at Exit 281 on the ramp from westbound I-64 to Military Highway. According to State Police, the SUV was shot at by an unknown vehicle before the crash, with the left-rear passenger sustaining life-threatening injuries. The injured passenger was taken to the hospital. There were five teenagers in the SUV during the incident. Virginia State Police arrived at the scene of the incident, which took place near the Northampton Boulevard exit at mile marker 281.5. Both westbound I-64 and the westbound I-64 exit 281 remained closed into the early hours of Friday as part of the investigation. Witnesses or those with information are urged to call #77 from a cell phone or contact the Virginia State Police Chesapeake Division. The incident marks the second shooting on I-64 in Hampton Roads, following a fatal shooting on Sept. 24. Law enforcement continues to seek information on that case.
