Semi-truck driver in Southern California no longer facing DUI charges after toxicology test, DA reports

The semi-truck driver involved in the tragic accident on the 10 Freeway in Ontario will no longer be facing felony DUI charges, prosecutors announced. Jashanpreet Singh, 21, from Yuba City, entered a not guilty plea on Oct. 24 for charges of driving under the influence of drugs, causing bodily injury, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. According to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office, Singh's blood tests did not show any substances during the time of the accident. The new charges against Singh include three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and one count of reckless driving causing injury on the highway. The circumstances around the accident, such as whether Singh may have fallen asleep at the wheel, have yet to be determined by prosecutors. Investigations revealed that Singh's truck rear-ended another vehicle, leading to a devastating collision that claimed the lives of three individuals. As for his immigration status, the Department of Homeland Security alleges that Singh is an undocumented immigrant who entered the country in 2022 from India. In contrast, California transportation authorities argue that Singh received legal employment authorization, allowing him to obtain a REAL ID confirming his legal status until 2030. It remains uncertain whether Singh's upcoming court appearance will be affected by the new charges. Presently, he is in custody without bail.
