Semi loses control on I-70 near Denver, falls onto 6th Avenue

A truck heading east on I-70 veered off the road and landed on 6th Avenue below, leading to lane closures and severe traffic congestion west of Denver last Thursday. The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. near the intersection of I-70 and 6th Avenue in Jefferson County, as reported by Golden police. Authorities from Golden police, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, and Colorado State Patrol responded to a collision between a gravel-carrying semi-truck and another vehicle on eastbound I-70 and US Highway 6. Initial investigations suggest that the semi hit the other vehicle, went off the road, and descended an embankment near the Highway 6 bridge. The truck ended up in the median of Highway 6, obstructing all eastbound lanes. While the passenger vehicle driver emerged unscathed, the semi-truck operator sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital. The accident resulted in a spill of diesel fuel and gravel, necessitating a hazardous materials cleanup by specialized crews. The eastbound lanes of 6th Avenue were shut down for an extended period due to the incident, while the eastbound lanes of I-70 between C470 and 6th Avenue were closed for approximately an hour following the crash.
