Security motorcade for JD Vance in Alcoa leads to officers crashing

UPDATE: There has been a correction to the location of the crash, which actually took place in Maryville, not Alcoa as initially reported by a law enforcement spokesperson. During a security motorcade for Vice President JD Vance, a crash involving two law enforcement vehicles occurred in Maryville on Friday. According to a spokesperson from the Tennessee Department of Safety, a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper and a motor unit from the Maryville Police Department were involved in the incident. The Maryville police officer involved in the crash was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and is currently in critical condition, as reported by Police Chief Tony Crisp. Chief Crisp has asked for prayers for the officer, their family, and the medical staff, expressing gratitude for the support from the community. Vice President JD Vance had arrived at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Alcoa at approximately 5:30 p.m. for a local fundraiser. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
