Second driver in fatal Serra Catholic school van accident gets maximum 4.5-year prison term

Andrew Voigt, one of two men involved in a high-speed race that led to a fatal school van collision nearly two years ago, was sentenced to a maximum of 4 and 1/2 years in prison this week. Voigt will spend between 16 and 54 months behind bars for his part in the tragic incident that resulted in the death of Samantha Kalkbrenner, a student at Serra Catholic High School. The collision occurred in September 2023 along Richland Avenue in Dravosburg. Voigt and his racing partner, William Soliday, were charged months after the crash, with police determining that their high-speed race was the cause. Voigt was convicted in May of multiple charges, including recklessly endangering others, reckless driving, careless driving, and speeding offenses. Despite not directly hitting the van, Judge Bruce Beemer noted that Voigt played a significant role in the collision. Earlier this year, Soliday, who crashed into the school van, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and received a sentence of 5 and 1/2 to 12 years in prison.
