Following an unfortunate incident last week in which a man and his 8-year-old son were struck by a pickup truck in a parking lot where a food truck was operating, many customers express that they continue to feel secure, thanks to the city's existing regulations. The city has specific rules and limitations regarding food trucks and vending vehicles, including permissions to park on public right-of-way streets and serve customers on adjacent sidewalks. Once a permit is approved, it is valid for one fiscal year and allows operation in any city location. Mike Roberts, the owner of Mike's Smoke and Grill food truck, recently began selling at the "Pueblo Magico" spot near Rosedale Highway and Calloway Drive. Despite the busy intersection, Roberts feels secure in this location due to safety features like fencing, anchored telephone and light poles. Customer Francisco Garcia shares his confidence in the safety of food truck locations, attributing it to the established regulations that govern these operations. He mentions that knowing there are regulations in place reassures him and eliminates any safety concerns when visiting food trucks.
