Romain Grosjean to pilot F1 car after surviving fiery crash at 2020 Bahrain GP

Romain Grosjean will be back behind the wheel of an F1 car for the first time since his incredible escape from a fiery crash in the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. The former Haas driver will test their 2023 car at the Mugello circuit on Friday, under F1's Testing of Previous Cars rules. Despite his injuries being limited to burns on his hands, Grosjean missed the last two races of the 2020 season, ending his F1 career prematurely. The Frenchman now competes in IndyCar and sportscars in North America but has long awaited a final run in an F1 car. Grosjean expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity, which will also allow him to wear a helmet designed by his children. This test will reunite Grosjean with former Haas colleagues, including current team principal Ayao Komatsu, who will serve as his race engineer for the day. Grosjean started 179 grands prix between 2009 and 2020, achieving 10 podium finishes. The 2025 F1 season continues with the Singapore Grand Prix on October 3-5.
