The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has shared updates on a recent police pursuit that ended tragically as a U-Haul crashed into the Erie Canal. The incident involved Reginald Russell and Ryan Armstrong, who allegedly were engaged in a shoplifting event at a Walgreens in Brockport. After loading stolen items into a U-Haul, they led law enforcement on a chase that culminated in a crash. One of the suspects, Russell, sadly lost his life in the canal. The other suspect, Armstrong, is in custody facing serious charges. Chief Deputy Michael Fowler described Armstrong as a repeat offender with a lengthy criminal history, highlighting the need for stronger measures to prevent recidivism. Authorities are still investigating the case and collaborating with retailers to enhance security.
