Reopening of Universal Orlando Coaster Postponed Due to Fatal Accident

Universal Orlando Resort is set to reopen its Stardust Racers ride at Epic Universe, following the recent tragic incident involving a 32-year-old man who passed away from injuries sustained on the roller coaster. Safety measures will be reinforced through updated signs that clarify warnings and requirements for potential riders, including information on the high speeds of up to 62 mph reached on the dual-launch coaster. Karen Irwin, President and COO of Universal Orlando Resort, communicated in a memo to staff that the ride will resume operation on Saturday. While the family of the deceased individual had requested a delay in reopening until investigations were complete, the medical examiner determined the cause of death as accidental blunt impact injuries. Universal conducted thorough operational and technical reviews, supported by testing from the ride's manufacturer and an independent roller coaster expert, confirming the proper functioning of the ride system and adherence to safety protocols. Additionally, recent reports from a woman claiming injuries on the ride, including violent shaking and head impacts, have emerged, alongside similar accounts from others linked to the roller coaster's debut earlier this year.
