Reopening of Northbound I-225 in Aurora following fatal crash.
A tragic accident occurred on Friday afternoon that resulted in the closure of northbound lanes on I-225 in Aurora for a period of time. The Colorado Department of Transportation shut down the highway between US 40 and I-70 as emergency crews responded to the scene. Drivers were advised to expect delays while authorities worked to investigate and clear the area. The Aurora Police Department reported that a collision involving four vehicles, including a motorcycle, occurred around 2:53 p.m. at I-225 and Smith Road. The female motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she tragically passed away shortly thereafter. There were no other reported injuries. During the investigation, police directed traffic to 17th Place, and all lanes on northbound I-225 were reopened by approximately 4:40 p.m.
