Remembrance vigil for two men killed in Warren police crash

Two families are remembering their lost loved ones who tragically passed away a year ago in a crash on Schoenherr Road in Warren, Michigan. On the anniversary of the incident, friends and family gathered to commemorate Cedric Hayden Jr., 34, and DeJuan Pettis, 33, who were known as brothers, husbands, and fathers. The street was adorned with balloons and photos of the victims during the remembrance event. Pettis's mother, Charisse Brown, expressed her desire for justice for her son, while Hayden's father, Cedric Hayden Sr., noted the absence felt by Hayden's children. The fatal crash, which occurred on September 30, 2024, involved a police cruiser, resulting in charges against an officer for multiple offenses. Attorney James Harrington of Figer Law stood by the families, promising to advocate for justice. Harrington emphasized the preventable nature of the incident and pledged to ensure such a tragedy does not occur again within the police department's operating culture. The legal team is actively collecting evidence for the civil case and is preparing for a trial by jury.
