Remembrance Event in New Britain Pays Tribute to Traffic Accident Victims

Dozens gathered in New Britain on Sunday to honor those who have lost their lives in traffic accidents. The community met in Walnut Hill Park to observe World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, an annual event held on the third Sunday of November. Families shared stories of their loved ones lost in traffic accidents, and the names of those who died in Connecticut over the past year were read aloud. State Rep. Kate Farrar emphasized the importance of remembering that every statistic represents a loved one. Attendees called for stricter penalties for reckless drivers and the implementation of Intelligent Assistance Speed Devices (IAS) for repeat offenders. New Britain Mayor Bobby Sanchez discussed initiatives to address speeding issues in the city. Erin and Larry Hermann shared the story of their son, Kyle, who was killed in a traffic crash, highlighting the importance of coming together to support one another through grief.
