Recollection of onlooker on traumatic crash injuring Maryville officer
A Maryville resident shared details about the accident that seriously injured Maryville Police Field Training Officer Justin Brown while he was part of Vice President JD Vance's motorcade. Kelsi Zimmerman was on her way to dinner with her fiancé when they encountered a procession of state troopers and police officers lining the streets in Maryville. Redirected by officials, they parked at a nearby bank to observe the motorcade passing by. After a brief wait, the motorcade, including the Vice President, passed them. Following closely behind, Officer Brown was riding a motorcycle at high speed when an SUV suddenly veered into his path, resulting in a collision. Brown was thrown off his motorcycle, landing on the ground, and Zimmerman described the incident as a terrible coincidence. Quick action from bystanders, including her fiancé, who helped administer CPR, revived Brown. Emergency responders later transported him by ambulance from the scene. The driver of the SUV, attended to by AMR, declined hospitalization. The incident was particularly distressing for Zimmerman, reminding her of a previous serious accident. Vance was reportedly in East Tennessee for a fundraising event. The Tennessee Highway Patrol Critical Incident Response Team is looking into the matter.
