Probation for woman who fatally ran over elderly man at KU Cancer Center
A tragic incident occurred when a woman struck and killed an elderly man at the University of Kansas Cancer Center parking garage where she was employed. The woman, identified as Kelsi Carmack, pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene after the accident resulting in the man's death, and was subsequently placed on probation for 31 months. In the event of violating the probation terms, she could face imprisonment. The fatal accident took place on March 28, 2024, in Fairway, at the KU Cancer Center. After hitting 94-year-old William Ward with her vehicle, Carmack continued into work, unaware of the incident. Law enforcement found Ward's body in the garage, while her truck was located parked on a different level. Carmack claimed the sun obstructed her view and she thought she hit something but was unsure. She attributed the damage on her truck to a previous accident and went on with her day as normal.
