Preliminary Report on Plane Crash That Fatally Injured Montgomery Co. Legislator
Preliminary findings from the investigation into a fatal plane crash on Block Island in late July have provided new details about the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board's initial report indicates that the pilot and two passengers departed Albany International Airport en route to Block Island for lunch. The pilot attempted multiple landings, encountering challenges such as other aircraft on the runway and gusty winds. Regrettably, the plane ran out of remaining runway, crashing into trees. The pilot and one passenger sustained injuries while a 77-year-old passenger tragically lost their life. The NTSB also noted issues with the pilot's radio communications leading up to the crash. A final report on the tragedy, including its probable cause, is expected to be released within the next 1-2 years.
