Pontiac accident claims man's life, fifth fatal pedestrian incident in city in 2021

A 77-year-old man from West Bloomfield tragically lost his life after being struck by an SUV driver in Pontiac earlier this week. This unfortunate incident marks the fifth fatal pedestrian crash in Pontiac for the year, as reported by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. The collision occurred near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Elm Street around 4 p.m. last Monday. Law enforcement officials shared that a 45-year-old driver from Imlay City was traveling north on MLK Jr. Boulevard when the elderly man attempted to cross the street, possibly to ask for directions, and was hit by the SUV. The pedestrian, identified as Jehad Alrayess, succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. Authorities have ruled out alcohol, drugs, and speeding as factors in this tragic accident. Overall, Pontiac has seen a total of 10 pedestrian-involved crashes resulting in significant injuries, with five of them being fatal, this year. "We remind both drivers and pedestrians to stay alert," stated a representative of the Sheriff's Office, emphasizing the importance of vigilance on the road for all road users.
