
Police officer on Long Island critically injured during funeral procession
An unfortunate incident occurred on Monday during a funeral procession in Lindenhurst that left a Long Island highway officer, Officer Michael Hyland, seriously injured. The Nassau County officer was leading the motorcade when he was struck by a pickup truck shortly after leaving the church. Officer Hyland, who was on a motorcycle, was hit by a Toyota Tundra, driven by a 61-year-old named Jeffrey Geller, along North Wellwood Avenue. The officer was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition. The incident, which occurred where there were no stop signs, is under investigation by Suffolk County Police. Authorities are still determining if charges will be filed against the driver. Witnesses are encouraged to reach out to the Suffolk County Major Case Unit with any relevant information.
